Ok, before we see how accurate my picks were… Let me just gush & vent on some of the performances. I think one aimless paragraph will get ‘er done!
Mary. J. Blige. Damn girl… did you get some vocal lessons or something? I haven’t seen you sing so well on live tv, ever. You got some great control over your voice, and I’m beyond leased. Beyonce & JT… shame on you. You are 2 of the most funnest popstars around right now, and you gave us some very dull performances last night. Justin, love the song, but really, you could have had a true showstopper if you had done SexyBack. And Beyonce, give it up hon, Dreamgirls was a star vehicle for J-Hud, not you. Chris Brown, you go boy, that’s everything a performance should be! Carrie Underwood, go away! Smokey Robinson a special note from me to you, don’t ever wear a see-through shirt again. Lionel Richie was amazing, he sounds just the same as he did almost 15 years ago when he recorded ‘Hello’. What would happen if Christina Aguilera just sang a song plainly, and not yodelling every note? And she needs a hot-oil treatment. Shakira has one bangin’ body. When did the Grammy’s become American Idol? The Police are some kick-ass aging rockers. Why was their confetti snowing down during the Red Hot Chili Peppers great, but anti-climactic performance. John Mayer, John Legend, & Corinne Bailey Rae should go on tour together and do duets every night! Hey, Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks is married to Nathan Petrelli from Heroes!
And here’s the winners… in order of how I covered them last week:
Best Dance Recording: Justin Timberlake – SexyBack — not a bad choice I guess, still wish Goldfrapp hadn’t got shut out (he also won for best rap/sung collabo for ‘My Love’ with TI)
Best Dance Album: Madonna – Confessions On A Dancefloor — I can live with that
Best Remix Recording: Talk (Thin White Duke Mix) (Coldplay) — but he already won one 2 years ago!?
Best Soundtrack Song: Our Town – Randy Newman (Cars) — doesn’t he keep writing the same song for every movie…
Best Pop Vocal Album: John Mayer – Continuum — really surprised me… guess I need to listen to it again
Best Female Pop: Christina Aguilera – Ain’t No Other Man — I can live with that, too!
Best Male Pop: John Mayer – Waiting On The World To Change — damn skippy!!
Best Duo/Group Pop: BEP – My Humps — Very surprised, but I can live with it!
Best Pop Collabo: Stevie/Tony – For Once In My Life — went with the old-timer vote… yawn!
Best R&B Song: MJB – Be Without You — I can live with that!
Best Female R&B: MJB – Be Without You
Best Male R&B: John Legend – Heaven — I’m surprised & thrilled!
Best Urban Alternative: Gnarls Barkley – Crazy (They also won best Alternative Album, so apparently, they’re the alternative to everything!)
Best R&B Album: MJB – The Breakthrough — no surprise!
Best Contemporary R&B Album: Beyonce – B’Day — Can I call ’em or what!?
Best New Artist: Carrie Underwood — What The Fuck!?
Record & Song of The Year: Dixie Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice
Album of the Year: Dixie Chicks – Taking The Long Way — it’s their year… very surprising!
SO, for the most part, I’m pleased. The Dixie Chicks really got some much deserved respect. Same for Mary J. I don’t understand the fuss about Carrie Underwood, she sounds just like LeAnn Rimes, who’s been around WAYYY longer!
And now for the most important part… who got ROBBED?
Imogen Heap – she was the dark horse in both categories, but it was still impressive that she even got nominated!
Nelly Furtado – She should have easily grabbed a Best Pop Album nod. One category is not enough for her. Loose was a terrific album, and the Grammy golks dropped the ball!
James Blunt – Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, eh? HA HA!
Prince – C’mon, when was the last time the guy put out a solid album from start to end.
Corinne Bailey Rae – Stiff competition, dear, we still love you though!
Pink – Release ‘Dear Mr. President’ as a single, maybe the Chicks have blazed a trail for you to pick up in political pop songs! What have you got to lose!?
Freemasons – I don’t know why Jacques Lu Cont won again, but it was meant for you!
Goldfrapp – Forgive us, we’re a little slow over here. Your music kicks ass.
Lupe Fiasco – Your album was awesome, but I guess it was Ludacris’ year. Better luck next year!
And that ends the Grammy coverage for this year. Hope you enjoyed em as much as I did!

You sounded like my friend when she found out about Natalie’s hubby. Happy the chicks won too! My friend kept saying take that Reba everytime they won, hilarious. Beyonce, sigh, the glitter the sparkles I am spent with them. I hope she does not wear something of the like for the Oscars. Smokey Robinson, sigh sigh sigh. Lace? Lace? Lace? First the plats in his hair and now lace. SIGH. Prince, just seeing him was enough. Le weep Le swoon. JT was cool, I gave up on Christina when she dropped to her knees a la James. Chris Brown won me over some more with his homage to Stomp the Yard, plus he had the children on stage with him. Seeing Verndine White from Earth, Wind, and Fire made me want to get in contact with about his hair because it is too sliky for words. I’m not upset with Lupe since he is working on his next album and Luda; I kinda did want T.I. to win, but he won two awards and that’s cool. I would add more but, it’s almost time for Tatum and Wicked Wicked and it’s been awhile since TV has been soo campy.
Smooches
