June 2007

If any of you went to the True Colors Tour, you heard Cyndi Lauper introduce a video drumming up support for the Matthew Shepard Act, to include GLBT people in the Hate Crimes Act.

She also mentioned post cards to send to your representatives. We couldn’t find them at the Columbia show. Luckily I’m on the HRC e-mail list. So I found out how you can do it online.

Go here to contact your government representatives and show your support!!

PS – I sent mine in on Wednesday, and my girl Senator Barbara Mikulski already replied to my e-mail. Granted it was a form letter, but it was the form letter for this particular issue, and already spoke of her support for 15 years for this issue. Hell yeah!!

By the late 90’s, Kylie’s music career was at it’s lowest. Her previous album, 1997’s ‘Imposssible Princess’, though critically lauded, didn’t set many charts on fire. It was her first album where she wrote all the songs on it, but it’s darker direction and indie rock-tinged singles didn’t sit well with many people. However, her comeback was brewing.
In, 2000, Kylie launched her ‘Light Years’ album with the lead single ‘Spinning Around’. The album was a return to her dance-pop roots, and was a fun & happy album, far from the darker elements of IP. ‘Spinning Around’ (which was co-written by Paula Abdul) was a fun dancepop single, with disco inflections and undeniable grooves. It brought Kylie back to the #1 position in the UK and Australia, as well as a few other countries. Oh and then there’s the video…

The video made Kylie’s bum a household name too. Wearing a pair of gold hotpants she picked up in a vintage store for a few bucks, her ass almost stole the show from our girl. The video opens with a shot of her ass as she’s walking into a club. Her bum became a phenom of J-Lo proportions. As well it should, just look:
So while we’re sitting around waiting on pins and needles for new material, just remember how she knocked it out of the park 7 years ago!!

So I took another quiz thing over at ModFab. This time to see what my blog would be rated, on the scale of the MPAA. Well… I need to start seeing some ID’s because:
Apparently I use naughty words like fucker and sexy. That’s the scale. Either way… it gave me a giggle!

Go here to find out what your blog, or a blog you read is rated!

So the new single for Amy Winehouse has just been promo’d, and in addition to the fabulous Al Usher Remix I shared a few weeks ago, there are 2 more great remixes of my favorite track on her ‘Back to Black’ album. Enjoy!!

And to check the video, head over to ModFab!!

I just took a kind of morbid quiz over st mingle. com. According to The Cadaver Calculator, my corpse, if sold to science, is worth:

Saw this quiz over at shantytown, and thought it would be good for a laugh. What’s yer score?

ModFab tagged me. How can I say no!?
1. All right, here are the rules.
2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
4. People who are tagged write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. Though I squawk about Kylie Minogue several times a week, originally, since I was 13, my heart belonged to Tori Amos. I still love her, and respect her, but Kylie took over, and inched her way to number 1. At least as far as gay boys and their divas go.
2. It took me 7 years of having a job to work up the nerve to go #2 at work. Since then it happens all the time… because if one must shit, may as well get paid for it!
3. Though I’m addicted 2 comic books now, there were 2 significant periods in my life where I stopped reading comic books altogether. Once was because I though I was too grown up (HA!) and once because money was too tight.
4. I’m scared of snakes. To the core. Like so scared I start to cry if I see them for too long. Even on TV.
5. I have lived in Maryland all my life. I have only been to Ocean City twice. Ever!
6. I’m starting to worry that I’ll never act in a show again, and that I’m not really even that good at it.
7. I still have yet to see the movie versions of Evita, RENT, & Dreamgirls. I lie in bed, bathed in sweat for fear the gay mafia is going to break into my house in the middle of the night and take away my gay card (and the toaster).
8. I don’t understand open relationships. I don’t judge the people in them, but I just can’t wrap my mind around the concept.

Now I must tag my friends… but I’m late to the party and my 8 regulars ahve been tagged… so anyone else, feel free to steal this one from my blog!

It’s official. The rumors are true. They’re back.

After years of speculation, the 5 craziest chicks in music are getting back together.

Ginger, Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty.

The Spice Girls just held a press conference announcing the reunion. A documentary is coming soon, with a greatest hits album in November, and then…

A world tour in December.

The only east coast US date is in New York, so I’m not getting my hopes up. But it’s gonna be awesome/tragic/hilarious.

Since they broke up in 2001, they’ve all taken cracks at solo careers, none of which were more successful then any of the others really, and certainly not bigger than the band’s hits. They’ve all had babies, except for Baby. Posh is married to a soccer superstar, Scary just had Eddie Murphy’s illegitimate child, Ginger was George Michael’s fag hag for a while, and Sporty was never my favorite. Ginger was.

So here’s some tunes to get you back in that ‘girl power’ frame of mind!
