Usually solo material by an ex-Destiny’s Child is cause for a little ridicule. Especially when we’re talking Michelle Williams, the red-headed stepchild of the group. Her new single is pretty damn cute though. Check it out!

Incredible variant cover to issue 5 of the piss poor Wolverine Origins series. The detail in the art is great, and the image of Wolvie up on Cyclops woman with a sword to her neck is provocative. Too bad the story isn’t.

Speaking of provocative covers…
The Klaxons - No Diggity
Mutya Buena - Fast Car

I’m so shocked I haven’t got to Lenny Kravitz yet!? He is smoking hot & makes consistently excellent music. He also seems like he would be one of the most cool and down to earth people to hang out with. All that, and you could do your laundry on his stomach. What a guy!

Lenny Kravitz - American Woman
Lenny Kravitz - Breathe (Chromeo Remix)
Lenny Kravitz - Rock & Roll Is Dead

I love this cover from the all painted ‘Marvels’ mini-series from the 90’s that showcased Marvel events through the eyes of a normal person. This cover says so much, and is so well done. I would frame this like art and put it on my wall. So I also picked some emotional covers for today. Casey Stratton is a queer singer, who’s debut album got some popularity after Junior Vasquez remixed 2 of his songs. However I was most fascinated by his covers of my favorite alterna-divas (and one by New Order… who weren’t divas)!

Casey Stratton - Butterfly (original by Tori Amos)
Casey Stratton - Last Day of Our Acquaintance (original by Sinead O’Connor)
Casey Stratton - Regret (original by New Order)

I swear this isn’t turning into an N*Sync blog. How queer would that be? Speaking of though… here’s the gayest pimps around singing an 80’s classic by Johnny Kemp:

It seemed especially appropriate this week. I’ve been lax on the posting because my last big research paper of the semester was due, & I had to ‘get ‘er done’, so to speak. So work and school have again whooped my ass, & of course the blog has paid the price. Sorry! However it’s the weekend now, so time for some partying, shopping, relaxing, & generally NOT thinking about work!!

N*Sync - Just Got Paid
Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid (Friday Night)
Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid (12″ Version)

Fierceness is the name of the game today.

This cover really does it for me. First off, the art by one of the greatest things to come out of comics in the 90’s — Jim Lee. His pencils are magical, when he can actually deliver on time! More so than that, the battle on the cover. Rogue vs. Ms. Marvel. They’re probably my 2 most favorite characters, & their paths are intertwined from way back when Rogue almost absorbed Ms. M’s entire life force years ago when Rogue was a villain. This cover plays up the mid-90’s pre-emo turmoil they had Rogue going through. AWESOME!

Mika vs. Armand Van Helden - Can’t Stand Losing You I’ve never been a big Police fan, but this cover is absolute genius. Mika’s vocal are good, and work the original into something fresh, without being totally unrecognizable. And then Armand takes over. And turns this track into 4 minutes of frantic dance insanity. Every time I work out this song is on blast on my iPod. Perfection!
