Jill Scott - Hate On Me

Jilly from Philly has released quite a surprising audio sample. Alledgedly this track is the first single from her upcoming “The Real Thing” album, dun in the late summer. Either way, this track is a far cry forom the Jill Scott I’m used to. It’s empowering, like most of her stuff, but the beats are surprisingly Hip-Hop from the the front-runner of the neo-soul revolution. See for yourself!

Sex sells…

so I’m going to try to keep us more updated on hot men. Because NO ONE else is doing that… of course mine will try and fit into that comic/music mold. I’ll be doing one medium size picture and a handful of thumbnails.

To start us off right, I give you - Chris Evans. (My future husband)

Chris Evans has 2 comic book connections. He stars as the Human Torch/Johnny Storm in the ‘Fantastic Four’ movie franchise (’Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ hits theatres on June 15th), and he also did the voice of Casey Jones in the ‘TMNT’ animated feature earlier this year. Playing a superhero who sets himself on fire SO works for this guy, because he is HOT like fire. He has appeared in several other films, including ‘Cellular’, ‘Not Another Teen Movie’, ‘London’, and the upcoming ‘The Nanny Diaries’. He is also soon to be appearing in my bedroom!

For years now I’ve been taking remixes without a readily available radio mix, and editing them down for listening in the car/iPod/etc. I love remixes, but when they get into the 7-10 minute realm… the beats can get a little monotonous. In a few cases, I felt like the official radio edits left out too much of the good stuff from the longer mix, so I made a newer, longer edit.

So, I’m gonna start sharing what I’ve done with you. I try to do the best I can… but I know there’s a couple where I just never got the beats to match perfectly, & I gave up. I’ll warn you if I link those. If there’s a mix you would like to see shortened, let me know and I’ll see what I can do!

Bjork - Human Behaviour (Underworld QB Edit)
I’ve been a Bjork fan since high school (which was just 2 years ago. or more like 10), & though I had this remix for forever, it wasn’t until I heard it played during the season finale of Queer as Folk season 2 that I realized how hot & sexy it was.

Scissor Sisters - It Can’t Come Quickly Enough (SM Boot QB Edit)
This is a white label mix I found of an album cut off the SS’ first album. The remix is actually more of a dub with it’s repetition of lyrics, but the beats are great disco-house, & I think it’s more tolerable in the 4-minute realm, then the 7. What do you think?

Uncanny Alliance - Miss My Love

I’ve experienced some great reaction in the past about my mentions of the 90’s dance act, Uncanny Alliance. This band was awesome. It was a producer and a singer, and they made some great dance music. Their biggest songs were “I’m Beautiful Dammit” & “I Got My Education”. Their album is great fun, and apparently VERY hard to find. So I’m gonna start sharing some tracks off of it. To start us off if the reggae-ish track, “Miss My Love”. Give it a spin and check the lyrics. So funny!

college of knowledge

If your remember, at the end of my New York post, I alluded to some more personal news on the way. And here it is…

I have officially become a student again.

Let’s backtrack. I dropped out of college about 7 years ago, after pretty much wasting 2 years (except for the work I did in theatre, that was great!) at Howard Community College. Good thing I decided to drop out, because they were puting me on academic suspension anyway. I wasn’t a great student, and I wasn’t very motivated to be there. Basically, my parents were making me go!

Fast forward to the past few months. I’m trying to get promoted at work, and they hinted at the idea of wanting me to go back to school. Well since work will pay for it, and it can’t hurt, I jumped on it and I’m doing it. I had to do some extra meeting with college people to be placed on academic probation (ha… what a way to start again), but the credits I did pass still count, and the new classes I take will only increase my GPA. And in about a semester I’ll be off probation. And in about 2 years, I’ll have my AA and can start looking to transfer to a 4 year, which will probably take me that long.

I’m taking it easy and only doing one class at a time, so I don’t get overwhelmed or burnt out, but I am taking 2 courses during the 3 summer sessions the college offers. Today I started ‘Introduction to Business & Organization’ and so far, it’s surprising how much I already know. Hopefully I’ll actually get to learning in a week or so, but right now it’s a little redundant. After that, I’m taking ‘Principles of Internet’, and except for learning some more HTML, I’m pretty sure I could teach that one.

Either way, that’s the update in my little world. I’m kinda blah, kinda nervous, and kinda excited… if that’s possible… so wish me luck!
